Firstly make sure that you have ordered the correct sized tube. This is a good rule of thumb for any lighting – check the product is correct before installing/calling an electrician.

There are two different types of fitments for an LED tube: a magnetic ballast and an electronic ballast. A way to identify which one it is, is to see if the fixture has a starter, if it does it is a magnetic ballast, if not it will be an electronic ballast.

The following steps must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Magnetic Ballast

  1. Switch off the power to the light
  2. Remove the diffuser/cover and fluorescents tube from the fixture
  3. Replace the starter with the LED starter provided
  4. Install the LED tube just like the fluorescent
  5. Switch the power back on to check the replacement worked

Electronic Ballast

  1. Switch off the power to the light
  2. Remove the diffuser/cover and fluorescent tube from the fitting
  3. Remove the connected wires from the unit and then remove the electronic ballast unit.
  4. Connect the loose wires to form a complete circuit. Make sure the wires are secure and insulated
  5. Install the LED tube just like you would a fluorescent
  6. Turn the power back on to check the light works

Note: some LED light bulbs have both the live and neutral connection on the same side which would require re-wiring.
