500 roads in Singapore will have their street lamps fitted with LED light bulbs.

Around 4,000 LED street lights will be fitted along low traffic and residential roads. This is the result of a three year trial on Northumberland Road and Tekka Lane where 17 lamp posts were fitted with LED light bulbs.

The LED light bulbs are expected to save 30% on energy. The replacement of the street lights is due to be finished in 2018.

The LTA said:

[It is] actively looking into the possibility of using LED technology for higher wattage lighting along major arterial roads and expressways.
