Firstly make sure that you have ordered the correct sized tube. This is a good rule of thumb for any lighting – check the product is correct before installing/calling an electrician.
There are two different types of fitments for an LED tube: a magnetic ballast and an electronic ballast. A way to identify which one it is, is to see if the fixture has a starter, if it does it is a magnetic ballast, if not it will be an electronic ballast.
The following steps must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Magnetic Ballast
- Switch off the power to the light
- Remove the diffuser/cover and fluorescents tube from the fixture
- Replace the starter with the LED starter provided
- Install the LED tube just like the fluorescent
- Switch the power back on to check the replacement worked
Electronic Ballast
- Switch off the power to the light
- Remove the diffuser/cover and fluorescent tube from the fitting
- Remove the connected wires from the unit and then remove the electronic ballast unit.
- Connect the loose wires to form a complete circuit. Make sure the wires are secure and insulated
- Install the LED tube just like you would a fluorescent
- Turn the power back on to check the light works
Note: some LED light bulbs have both the live and neutral connection on the same side which would require re-wiring.
