Research by MarketsandMarkets found that within six years the world’s ‘smart’ lighting sector could be worth $56 billion (£33 billion).

It is expected to grow by 15.8% each year between 2014 and 2020. They think this is due to the rise in LED light bulbs, commercial sites modernising, paid growth of street lighting systems and the rise of smart lighting for cities.

Europe currently has the biggest market for smart lighting, especially in commercial and industrial, public and government buildings.

Public and government buildings were found to have the most ‘smart’ lighting.
