$1,200 worth of lighting was stolen from a New Zealand Church.

The church was going to be lit up for the Nelson School of Music’s Winter Festival as it is a main venue. The theft has meant that the Old St Johns can now not be lit for the festival.

Four LED bricks were stolen from Old St Johns despite it being only 100m from the police station. Another LED brick was stolen from Queen’s Garden as well as two from Nelson City Council gardens.

Provider of the LED bricks and Director of RGB Event Lighting, Ben Clegg, said:

They were screwed to the wooden frame. They literally ripped them off the building and damaged the frames of the building. It’s such a downer. We are giving 40,000 people so much pleasure for free, then some selfish people are going around doing that. It leaves a really nasty taste in my mouth.
