The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling Emergency Lights by Lithonia Lighting because the circuit board can overheat posing a fire risk.
This recall is due to the 29 reports Lithonia Lighting received of circuit boards overheating and fixtures melting or catching fire, with one particular incident resulting in over $100,000 worth of damage to an office building. No injuries have been reported.
Over 1.7 million Quantum series ELM and ELM2 have been recalled. The products are about 12.5 inches wide, 5 inches high and 3.75 inches deep. They were available in white or black plastic and have two incandescent lights and a rechargeable lead acid battery.
ELM or ELM2 appears on the label inside the fixture’s plastic housing above the battery. The recalled units have circuit boards that are green on both sides and either Rev B or Rev C printed in the top left corner. Fixtures that are not included in the recall have circuit boards where one side is beige and ELM2 LED, ELM2 SD and ELM2 WRS.
For now consumers should stop using the product and request a free repair kit from www.lithonia.com. All products that are recalled are illegal to sell.
