On Tuesday (May 20th) municipal officials agreed on new street lights for Kirkland Lake, Canada. They also agreed to get new lights for the rink at their Community Complex.
The city of Welland, Ontario was the first Canadian city to get LED street lights.
The cost for the street lights is $668,200 while the cost of the arena lights is $59,445. The lights have a 10 to 2o year warranty.
Town City Administrative Officer, Nancy Allick, said:
LED lights are a real cost saving measure. These lights rather than the lights we have now, light more efficiently, more effectively. They don’t burnout, they are made of hundreds of diodes so when something does burn out it’s one diode, so the whole light doesn’t go out. So you are not spending as much on maintenance.
