Speciality lighting manufacturer Wireless Environment is using Lightfair International to launch the SwitchSense Bulb Adaptor that is a new approach to novelty lighting.
Designed for use with LED or CFL replacement lamps, the adaptor can power lamps with a standard Edison base with batteries that are activated in the event of power failure to a building.
For safety reasons, most buildings must have lighting that will work in the event of a power failure. Usually, buildings have installed separate emergency lighting but low-power LED light bulbs are being looked at as new alternatives.
Wireless Environment is planning to use the ubiquitous A-lamp along with the SwitchSense socket to provide emergency lighting. Most buildings have Edison-based sockets readily available. The sockets can be installed with a conventional lamp in many types of fixtures. The main problem Wireless Environment faced was ensuring that the product detected the difference between lights being switched off and a power failure.
With SwitchSense no new wiring is required and the socket can be used with LED or CFL lamps. The product is expected to be sold later this year.
